Screen printing is the most traditional and widely accepted as the best method for garment printing. Screen printing starts off with artwork; the art is color separated on computer software — each color representing a different screen — and printed onto transparency films using an only black printer ink. Once the films are printed and prepared they are aligned onto screens and burned by exposing it to ultra violet light. Our screens are made of aluminum frames, with a silk mesh stretched tightly across the frame. The screens are then precisely aligned on our Workhorse screen press so that every print comes out nice and crisp. Ink is then applied on the screen and physically pushed through the screen mesh onto a garment using a squeegee.
There are a few different types of inks that can be used to screen print garments. These include plastisol ink, water based ink and discharge ink as well as some additives such as puff and high density. The most common, plastisol ink, is made up PVC particles suspended in a liquid of plasticizer which comes in a thick liquid form. Plastisol is printed onto garments and dries, also known as curing, at a temperature of about 350 degrees Fahrenheit at which point it chemically fuses with the fibers on garments.
